No stride

I couldn't find my stride last night on the treadmill. No matter what I did -- speed up, slow down -- I couldn't get it right. My breathing was off, my legs were funky. In the end, I managed only 3.5 not-so-great miles before calling it quits.

The best part of the run is that I figured out that time on the treadmill goes much faster when you are listening to good music. Why it has taken me all these years to learn this, I have no idea. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle, right?

Eh, big deal. Some runs aren't great. That's just the way it is. Fortunately, there's always tomorrow. In my case, today. I'll get it today. I'm up, I'm at 'em, I've got a busy day ahead. A run will be in there and it will be better than yesterday's run because I say so!

Hope you all have a great day on tap!

  3. I hope your run is better today! When I run on the treadmill I will have music and then watch the TVs at the gym so its like a double distraction!

  4. Watching a tv program also makes it fly by. I watched a movie once and ran for 2 hours... and I hate the treadmill!

  5. I find that I have a 50/50 shot at having a decent run on the 'mill. You have a better track record than I do. :)

    Have a GREAT run today!

  8. Even the best soundtrack in the world can't save a run on a treadmill for me, alas. So I call your 3.5 miles a triumph!

  13. Because you SAY SO, is an awesome statement of fact. You are setting yourself up for a terrific run. Sori about the treadmill run. You just have those days, like everything else in life. I learned that from you a few weeks ago. Take care.

  15. 3.5 crummy miles will only make today's glorious miles that much sweeter. Happy running!

  17. I can sometimes rock the outdoor runs sans headphones or just with a good podcast, but on the treadmill? I NEEEEEED music. TV won't even do.

Hope your run is better today! 3.5 miles is way better than 0, regardless.

  18. Nice attitude and I don't think I could run on the treadmill with TV or music. Not even a mile!

  19. Music is essential to the treadmill! I can also do podcasts at times but something....is needed.

  21. You'll get your dreadmill revenge soon enough, no worries! :)

I have 2 types of workouts on the mill, the one where the machine drives me nuts and beats me and the one where I completely and utterly destroy it with my advanced running skills ;) The audio mix does make a difference.

  22. felice, when i am not feeling a treadmill run i MAYBE last for a single mile :) 3.5 is solid! i know how much it takes to not-hop off the machine. i say, nice job. hopefully though your next tm runs will be smoother.

  23. As far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as a good run on the treadmill! But music does help it go faster, I agree.

  24. I was having a day like this...I called it PMS and got mad at myself and said you will run faster...that lasted 30 seconds then I got off and took a walk. :)

  25. Good tunes and good TV can make treadmill miles fly by....

Its also so easy to pull the plug on a treadmill workout; step off and you are done. If I am out on the road -- you have to run back home, so you can't stop. So soldiering on during a bad day on a treadmill is even harder!
