Five Things Friday, ep. 23.

1. Today = sunny. NICE change after so many clouds this week. It's been rainy on and off all week (and the weekend was a wash-out) but things are looking sun-ny for this weekend! Yay!

2. Speaking of the weekend, I have a good one on tap. A few runs, a party with some good girlfriends, Father's Day, dinner with the family and then a whole family trip to the Valleycats. The 'Cats are our local minor league baseball team. They're affiliated with the Houston Astros. Funny, since we're in upstate New York. But, it's always a fun time going there.

3. I'm in total vacation-prep mode. It's nuts. No one should get so nutty about things like that.

4. I'm looking for something new to add to my daily smoothie. I currently make my smoothie with a banana, some frozen strawberries or blueberries (or both), plain low-fat yogurt and ground flax seeds. Should I try chia seeds? Wheatgrass? Whey protein? Something else to give my go-to breakfast a boost? Have you tried any of these? Do you like or dislike them?

5. This baby is shifting around like mad. It's a real change from a week ago when the movements were many but comfortable. Now, it seems that he's deliberately sticking his foot or arm exactly where he knows it will be the most uncomfortable. The stretching and pressure -- whoo ha! It's been something else. Yesterday it started to go away a bit and I haven't felt it as much today so I'm thinking that it was just a phase this week, just the baby finding a new place to settle. That would be nice because it has been such smooth sailing this pregnancy and I want to keep that going!

Well, I hope you all have a great weekend! And don't forget to enter my giveaways over here :-)

I use chia seeds and Amazing Grass in my smoothies, and they have a few different flavors.

Chia seeds are great, although I haven't tried them in smoothies, just oatmeal. I know wheatgrass is good for you, but I bought a jar almost a year ago and still haven't finished it. I just can't stand the taste of it. Whey protein is good if you have a good brand (Jay Robb and Designer Whey are both good). I also add uncooked oats to my smoothies sometimes for added fiber! Raw nuts are good, too. Try cashews! They make my smoothies really creamy!

Oh baby! I remember my son's butt was wedged under my rib for the last month or so and it was incredibly annoying. Now that he's 12 it's hard to imagine he was ever really in there.

My husband eats chia seeds either on his cereal or in his OJ every morning. He swears by them...I think they would just make me poop.

My smoothies are the same as yours - with a big ol' handful of spinach! You'd be surprised... it's rerally good!!

Have a fantastic weekend! Sounds like you will.

I grind up 5-10 almonds and toss them in mine. That should go well with your nuttyness. It does add some goodness. Try it out.

This may sound strange, but have you tried spinach? You don't totally taste it, but it adds extra oomph.

Wow. Quite the weekend! Have a good time.

Ouch! I hope that the baby settles soon. I can imagine how bad that hurts!

Maybe more of a dessert smoothie than a breakfast smoothie, but I like frozen banana, peanut butter and milk. Yum!

i like coconut water in my smoothies...great source of potassium. and have you tried freezing the banana for your smoothies? makes them so much thicker.

Your smoothie is just what I ate today after my run, except that even my banana was frozen and I treated myself and used strawberry yogurt instead of plain today. I like to add pineapple and pineapple juice, when I have it, to my banana smoothies.

Here's another shout-out to spinach!

Everybody's doing it. http://greenmonstermovement.com/

Peanut butter is also great if you're looking for a little more staying power.

I've been having a smoothie with banana, strawberries, blueberries, spinach, soy protein, & chia seeds. It's a hideous color, but tastes yummy. It keeps me well fueled for the morning too.
