Peppy.

In my last post, I wrote about how my legs had felt like lead during Sunday's run. I had Monday off and then, yesterday, was scheduled for an easy 4-miler. I usually go at about a 9:30 pace for easy runs. Yesterday, though, I had to kick it up a notch.

When I headed out, my legs were leaden. Again! I didn't want anything to do with leaden legs so I told myself to shake it up, which, in this case, meant speeding up a bit. I ran hard up the big hill in my loop and then kept on going. I didn't speed up too much, just to an 8:45 pace. It helped. I felt so much better! The leaden legs were replaced with smoothly moving striders. It was just what I needed!

Today, though, I have speed on the schedule. I'm hoping that my slightly faster run yesterday will have prepped my legs a bit for today -- I need them to really work!

So, if you're interested, the toddler gymnastics class was a big hit. Conal loved it. He used the trampoline, the balance beams, high bar, parallel bars, everything! It was just great.

And . . . Marlene is having a Halo giveaway on her blog here. Check it out!

Have a good day!

i read this great piece of advice that says when you are feeling tired try to pick up the pace for a bit instead of slowing down...it has helped, maybe just that pump of adrenaline

I went o gym after layoff and felt awesome. Then I kicked it up by about 30 seconds, and got the lead legs -- so we went opposite.
Kid gymnastics are awesome for the kiddos! Love that.

I am so glad Conal loved gymnastics. There is so much the kids can do there that it is pretty much guanteed that they will find something they really enjoy.

Toddler gymnastics! Amazing!

I'm glad you were able to shake off the dead legs feeling. I personally hate that feeling and it doesn't help when Garmin is off too.

heheh!!! that is a great idea, to skip septembers ... :) except it's apple picking season! and the best running weather! :)

i miss gymnastics... that was one of my fave things when i was little.

i also find sometimes loosening up by speeding up just a bit can really shake me out of a funk!

glad your legs are feeling better! mine were pretty blah on my attempt at a run sunday, so yesterday when they wanted to go a bit faster than 'easy pace' i just let them. i sure don't want another revolt! :) hope the pep is here to stay!

I hate lead legs! It's the worst. Great work on breaking through. I may have to try that.

I came across your blog from Meg's blog. Sorry about the lead legs, I hate that feeling!!! My kiddo is ready for gymnastics, so we've been looking into it. It sounds like fun!

Yay for the gymnastics!

I totally feel ya. Sometimes even though it feels like the LAST thing you want to do, speeding the run up just a little (not race pace but faster than easy) is just enough to shake off the icky legs. At the very least, it gets you done quicker, right? :)

Kids doing gymnastics make me smile...they are so rubbery and flexible!

I love fresh, peppy legs. Enjoy!

Great for Conal and for you! It's weird for me that faster = easier, but there really is a sweet spot where slower = harder.
