You know the saying, "Change your attitude, change your world" or something like that?
I need to keep it in mind. I don't know what the heck is up with me sometimes but that last post? The one about the doubts? Well, I think that just writing that I was having doubts gave them life. It's like I empowered them by expressing them. I spent so much of yesterday thinking that I'm past my running prime and blah, blah, blah . . . doubt, doubt, doubt.
Huh? That's not me!
So, no more. I'm done.
I'm a strong runner, I know this. What's more -- I love to run. In my quest to increase my speed, I really do not want to lose sight of that. Yes, yes, yes, I want to be faster. I fully admit to wanting -- very much -- to run faster and set a PR in two weeks. But I do not want that to compromise my enjoyment. I don't want a running plan to ruin my runs. And, of course, I know that it wouldn't be the plan ruining my running. It would be me -- and my attitude about my runs --that would ruin my running. Does that make sense?
I'm glad that I have a purely easy run on the schedule today. I'm going to run through my neighborhood and enjoy my hills. I've got speedy speed on the schedule for tomorrow so I'll relish the easy run while I can!

Speedwork for me tomorrow as well.
I went through a little bit of this in the spring, and really let it get to me.

Doubts and negativity get into our head far too easily. Great post with an important reminder to ENJOY this.

I'm happy you got over those doubts! What you said about attitude affecting your running, that totally makes sense. Keep a positive outlook and always hope for the best, couple it with hard work and you'll be achieving your goal in no time at all! :)

Some people say that venting is a good thing - it lets you get it out of your system. Lately I've been thinking exactly what you said...it only stamps in what you don't want to feel in the first place!

I feel the same way - I do not want to lose the joy of running. Sometimes following a strict schedule can be hard even if you allow for changes. Nothing compares to just going out and running how you feel each day. i am sure you will run a great 5k. You have been putting in the time to the speedwork and that will pay off!
i'm in the process of enforcing a more positive attitude towards my runs myself lately. they go much better when i don't get all negative nancy on them!

I've been going through this since the Ultra...it's hard to not let the doubts take over. But at least you're recognizing it and working on it.
All of that made total sense. I'm sure every runner reading this could totally understand.
