Have I mentioned that I'm a maniac?

Not in any ultra-running or jumping-in-frigid-water-in-January sort of way. No. I'm a maniac about stuff I decide is good. Good for me, good for my son and husband, good for the environment. Once I decide that something is good for . . . then I'm all in. In like Flynn!

So it is with the high fructose corn syrup. I'm all in! Gimme more!

Oops! No, not that kind of all in. I'm actually against it. Once I learned how yucky (to use one of those technical terms that I'm always bandying about) it is, I decided to cut as much of it out of my (and Conal's and Owen's) diet as possible. And now I'm a maniac about it.

Yup, I'm that woman who walks around the grocery store and reads Every Single Label and when -- Holy Cannoli! -- the HFCS-free bread is on sale, buys six loaves! Six loaves. I kid you not. Right now, my freezer is packed with HFCS-free 7-grain bread that was a steeee-al at $2.49 per loaf.

Maniacal. I was this way with the cloth diapers give it up for the Kushies! and the homemade baby food, yogurt, flax, oats, sitting on a tennis ball, and, oh, and lots of other things. Still am. I'm nothing if not loyal to my personal good fors. And now I can add Down with HFCS! to my list.

If you are interested at all in the whole HFCS thing, I recommend the blog A Life Less Sweet. The site is a great resource for avoiding foods that contain HFCS.

Speaking of foods (and not, apparently, speaking of running today), thanks for all of the chick pea recipes! And keep 'em coming.

That's it from Manical Me. Have a great Monday!

LOL it's funny. I'm a label reader as well but I don't know why because half the stuff that goes into the cart is pure fat HAHA.

Way to go "all in" on the good stuff for you and the famiglia. How was your L.I. weekend?

I am the same way! I'm an avid label reader and avoid anything that contains HFCS and/or partially hydrogenated whatever. My favorite brand of bread is the Hannaford All Natural Whole Wheat Bread. I think it's the Nature's Place one. It's yummy, a good price and no HFCS. I've had a hard time finding bread crumbs with no HFCS and partially hydrogenated whatever so I usually make my own with toasted bread and a food processor. The one place I've found them is the co-op. Anyway, I'm rambling...thanks for that blog link! I love finding new blogs to read. :)

Being obsessed is a good thing in my mind!

But since Matt Fitzgerald says HFCS's are okay in moderation, I'm not cutting them out completely...just a few things need to go for me!

I hear you on this! I gave up HFCS about 4 months ago (I'd look it up, but eh..too lazy for that :)...and it's hard to find yummy bread and yogurt without it! I have yet to buy bulk on these things, but I probably should - each loaf of bread is @ 3.50 at least!

I'm a label reader, too. Thankfully many of my choices don't contain HFCS.

There are worse things to be maniacal about.

I too, share your mania. I have a whole list of personal mania topics.

I appreciate the blog link, please never stop sharing such great information.

As they say, "Ignorance is bliss."
But, in my opinion, it is much more empowering to be informed!

Ha ha! You and me both. I can be quite the maniac myself.

I hear you on high fructose corn syrup. They throw that poison on everything! It's ridiculous.

I'm all about the anti-HFCS too! It actually wasn't that bad to swap out my usual foods. Just had to switch brands on most things. I was pretty excited to find out that Gatorade powder is HFCS-free. I was nervous I was going to have to give that up on my runs.

Cloth diapers? Yes, you are a maniac.

I made it through a single day with cloth diapers.
