The un-post.

Does this happen to you?

I had a whole post written this morning. I re-read it and got a little nervous and so I deleted it. I'd described a situation and, well, it was a bit of a complaint. I mean, not a complaint complaint but sorta. You know, I laid out wacky little scenario in which I run (fast! and with perfect form!) and someone bugs me. That's it. Yes, there was more (the post was rich with details! and humor! one of my best efforts yet!) but that was the general idea.

And I deleted it. I was just too scared. What if someone stumbled across my blog and read that post and knew what I was writing about and got angry and then came to my house and beat me up? It could happen. It's normal to be scared like that. Right?

Right?

Right. So, um, the post is gone. And once it was gone I realized I was plum out of ideas. What would I say? That I hung out with six toddlers and their moms this morning and we planted seeds*? That the house is a complete disaster now, with corn muffin crumbs ground into the floor and toys everywhere? How is that related to running?

Well, it's not. So, let's just change the subject, shall we?

I went for a run yesterday! Fartleks! On the hills! Yep, nice run. So much of my speedwork has been intervals recently that shaking it up with fartleks felt good.

The end.

Bummer such a great post was lost to the black hole of blogville. I'm sure you have several more funny stories in your pocket. :o)

I love Fartleks! I look forward to hearing your running stories when you are ready to tell them on the blog!

Oh, yes. Ever since I was sixteen and the bad-ass cook in our summer program discovered the page I'd devoted to his meals in our "yearbook," I've been terrified of the wrath of people who just don't get my humor. I'm sure your post was wonderful and funny. But you certainly don't want to have to run terrified as a consequence, and frankly, the bitter taste of learning that somebody who irks you is actually a good human being and not at all psychopathic can be even worse.

That's why I like being able to lock certain posts... ;-)
Sorry I made corn muffins. :-(
I have no idea what a fartlek is but it is now my new favorite swear word.

I can't say I have done that EXACTLY, but I do sometimes second guess what I'm posting... totally understand.

Hope you had a fun earth day with the toddlers!

Yup I've deleted posts. Especially when I wrote a whole one about work once and then realized this is stupid my co-worker saw my blog =).

Sorry about the bugger!

Great job on Fartleks on Hills! You're a rockstar!

I hate losing stuff I've worked on - I never seem to be able to recreate it exactly how I want.

Hope the seed planting was fun!

yes definitely. It's happened to me. I feel better when I just hit publish and it is out there!

Yep, I've definitely deleted posts - and I think it's generally for the best :)

I have done this many times, and often I have "potential posts" in my head that never make it to the computer!

Marcy said...

I can't say I've ever done this?!? Maybe because I don't care and most people who know me personally would not be shocked at anything I write LOL But I can totally, totally, totally understand doing it. You're a nice one. You have manners, unlike myself HAHA!.

I worry about someone finding my blog and actually knowing who I am. I am nervous to let out too many details! Happy Earth day to you!

Oh girl just GO WITH IT! Say what's on your mind - it's freeing! And this is the blogosphere....where else can you be SO free with your thoughts than with a bunch of people that only know you on a computer?? :-)

i second guess my posts a lot. we all have a bit of self doubt i guess. it is your blog though and you are entitled to say what you want. i would probably be extra paranoid myself about the "what if's", so i understand.

happy earth day!! glad you had a good, fartleky and hilly run yesterday :)

i reread and think twice about posting things too, just never know when these damned interwebs. Most of my non-running friends could care less about my running, don't know I have a blog, and probably wouldn't be searching for anything that would make them stumble across my blog, but i'm still cautious. :) Great fartleks!

and why is it, that those posts would otherwise be the magnus opus of our blogging lives? I can relate. I can also relate to corn muffins in the carpet. How does grape juice strike you? (Thanks son.)

Rookie on the Run said...

I've done that too. And, yes, it's normal to be scared of repercussions... there are some crazy people out there.

Corn muffins in the carpet. Sounds like my house yesterday. And now we have ants. :/

Happy Earth Day to you!

I'm not bright enough to know when to delete a post. :-)

See that's why I blog about running, because I feel like I can bitch about that stuff! I keep my blog mostly clear of politics, etc., because then I'd have no friends ;)

Heh, heh. Wait till you get hater comments and phone calls from companies when you dis' their products and/or services. :D

I usually just keep posts in 'draft' stage until I decide I want to post them or not. I haven't removed a post after posting it (yet).

Sounds like a good Earth day with the toddlers, at least. :)

now i want to read that post :) lol... but yes! i have done the same thing... you just never know :)

Now you've peaked my curiosity! I really want to read that.

Funny because I have been thinking about that type of thing a lot lately, and how much I need to self-censor on my blog. I know I can't mention the place I work because I think they have searches running all over the place to find everytime they are mentioned on the web. And yes, some of those posts that I've written in my head on my way to work have been some of my best! :-)
