Again with the hills.

Last month, I mentioned that my formerly beloved hills were doing a number on me. They were making me slow down, huff and puff, and turning my stride into an embarrassing shuffle.

Well. Apparently, they were only playing with me. This weekend, they got serious. Serious. As in: They took me down. The hills beat me.

Sigh.

I knew the time would come when I would have to give in and walk the hills. I knew it. I just didn't think it would happen so soon. But, here I am. Walking the hills. Actually, I'm only walking up the two steepest and longest hills right now and I can still make it about half-way up before I slow to a walk. But still! They've won!

On Saturday, I headed out for a 5-miler in the glorious, warm sun. I conquered the first hill with (relative) ease. The second one was a different story. It's long and it starts out gradually but then the incline kicks in and it is pretty steep for about a quarter mile. I made my way through the gradual incline but slowed to a walk when the hill became steeper.

Then I took off again at the top of the hill, made my way through much of my loop, including some regular hills, and walked again when I hit another steep one.

Yup. Walking the hills. Next up? Walking all the hills. And after that? Waddling, I'm sure.

At least I'm still running, that's what I tell myself.

So happy Monday, everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend :-)

Just remember that you did make it up the hills. You didn't turn around and go home!

Hills are a runner's best friend and worst enemy. A frenemy so to speak. They make you faster but kick your @ss doing so... Keep it up, I promise you'll be conquering them before long!

Tina said it well! They didn't beat you. You didn't let them truely beat you! (I probably would have turned around...lol).

Keep on running and trying!

Just keep saying to yourself that you are out there running, even if you DO have to walk the hills. You're awesome!

I guess I should have clarified that I do love hills and run them all the time. But, the hills are getting me now because I'm preggo and the effort of running up some of them at a solid pace shoots my heart rate up way too high. It's disappointing to have to walk them at this point because hills have always been my thing but I know it is only temporary and after the pregnancy I'll be the one beating the hills!!!

Yep I think hills and wind are two of the most humbling things to experience while you're running. But to be cliche, they for sure make you stronger.

They did not win!!! You kept going which means you won!! And just think, at the end of all this there is going to be an amazing baby to love!

Running while preggo is sooo hard. BUT. Do what you can and you'll be better prepared to recover afterwards. I thought running 10 days postpartum after having twins was easier than running while just 8 weeks preggo! :-)

Yep, hills can knock ya flat on your butt...speaking of which, though, try some glute work in the gym...3-way lunges, deadlifts, leg press, glute bridges...all these make your glutes stronger, which is what gets the butt up the hills stronger!

yes, keep telling yourself because it's awesome that you're still running. i had kills kick my butt tonight and i have no excuse!

Those hills did not beat you. I was reading somewhere the other day that if you run and have to walk some you are still considered a runner. Keep going you can do it!

Great job still getting out there! I had to walk a hill in a race this past weekend and I'm not even preggo!

Any run knocked up is a success. You'll own those hills soon enough. :o)

I am glad you were able to get out there for some runs in this nice weather! Those hills can be tough especially with a steep incline! Just keep on running!

Your chugging a little growing baby up those hills with you - no one will judge if you take a little break and walk! I'm sure post baby you will get out there and teach those beasts who's boss. :)

The hills don't win until you avoid them completely.

The hills didn't win...you have an unfair advantage because you're carrying all that extra weight. You'll knock 'em dead soon enough!
