Lousiest race. Ever.

If ever there was an epic fail, there was one this morning. On the streets of Albany, NY. By me. Me, the Big 5K Failure Queen.

No excuses. I just failed. Failed to meet any of my goals. Failed to run well. Failed to run even close to my ability. Failed.

My sorry stats, according to Garmin:

Mile 1: 7:50
Mile 2: 8:44 (the mile when I seriously considered quitting -- what?!?!?)
Mile 3: 7:53
Last .1: :41
Overall time: 25:08 (for real!?!?)

Yup. You read that right: 25:08.

I have no idea what happened. None whatsoever. I am so very disappointed in myself and my lack of mental toughness. ARGH!

And that is that.

I'll take a look at what happened at some point. But, for now, I'm going to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hope you all are having a great one!

~ Felice

Scrap it! There will always be races that just don't go the way you want. Just shove it out the window and learn from it. Don't dwell too much about it or let it hamper your races in the future. Think about it like this: "Well, there's the one crappy race that I got out of the way, the rest of 'em will be much better." You just never know what is going to happen on race day.

Two weeks after my worst race ever (trail 10K), I ran 30 miles super-fast in a relay. Just look forward to your next race.

Awww...don't be so hard on yourself. Some days the racing is just not there. Could be any number of reasons, but we have all been there. And 25's not that bad!

i could only wish to run a 25:08 for a 5k.

Sorry that you're disappointed though, you be even more motivated in your next one.

I think you are being wayyy to hard on yourself. You made it to the finish line, finishing never means failure!

It happens! I had a 5K where I literally thought I wouldn't be able to finish...I was just completely out of it. The next weekend I broke 2 hours for a half marathon for the first time-felt great! Your body might surprise you next time.

P.S. Though I know it is no consolation, I would be thrilled about 25:08. :)

so you didn't get the race you hoped for, but you still ran it!! And completed it! Another notch on the race belt!

You are being pretty hard on yourself...25 is a respectable time. I had a post about failure this week. You should check it out. If you did your best then you did not fail. Not sure if you ever read Jamoosh'e blog but he had an excellent entry about failure too....you should check it out if you have a minute.

I have always thought that par was one good race in three. You'll bounce back.

Sounds like a rough day. The upside is you gutted it out, finished strong, and ran for a great cause. You'll race again and you'll be great.

Hey, we all have those days.

To be honest I will use this as inspiration next time I'm feeling crap. Not that you think you failed but that we all go through the same stuff. Welcome to the team. :)

To put things in perspective - I would be over the moon with your time!!!

In fact you'd have a hard time convincing me I wasn't the fastest woman on earth! lol

There will be other races! :o)

sorry, i'm in the camp of ... i'd love to run a 5K that fast. very hard for me to get my head around that being an epic fail...

Geez - I'd blow a lung trying to run a 5K that fast!

I'm sorry the race didn't turn out the way you wanted it to - there are just THOSE races unfortunately.

Gives me the rage to work even harder going forward.

That you finished says something! I'm sorry you didn't get the stats you want. It is a big dissapointment for sure - I know you were so looking forward to this! Taking the rest of the weekend off is probably a great idea. You can regroup and hopefully work towards the next goal and leave this one behind!

First let me just say that I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to run at your disappointed 5k pace=) You are too hard on yourself and just the fact that you got out there, ran the race, made it across the finish line.......well, I think that is AWESOME!!! No doubt though you will be ready for your next race!!

It's not a bad time, but I understand you're upset you didn't hit your goals. Shake it off, it just wasn't your day. Hope you're enjoying your weekend.

brush those shoulders off you muthah runnah! you still ran hard!

figure out what was 'off' and lay the plan out for 5k-redemption!!

You call this bad? Those are still impressive numbers my dear, I know they weren't the ones you wanted but they are still better than most. Everyone has off runs/races (I just had one myself on Saturday) you just gotta take the good with the bad, learn from your mistakes and trudge on! You'll get 'em next time!

Marlene said...

I am a firm believer in 'off' days. Sometimes, it's just an 'off' day and no matter what you do, it's not going to be a good run. Still sucks, so big hugs your way.

Sounds like an off day. We all have those. I will say thought that I think your time is awesome. Better than I can do!!!

So sorry the race didn't turn out the way you planned! But off days are meant to motivate us. And I'm glad it's behind you...the odds will be in favor of you next time!

Ugh, late on reading this. Glad you finished and sorry that you had such a tough race. You will get em on the next one!
