Soaking.

For the past few days, my lungs have felt like ladyfingers soaking up espresso and rum to provide the spongy goodness in tiramisu. Only, there's been nothing good coming from my spongy lungs. And instead of espresso and rum, my lungs feel as if they are steeped in muck. The muckity muck of the common cold.

Yuck to the muck.

Owen had it first and it hung on for what seemed like forever. I thought for sure I was going to get a pass because of some sort of super post-pregnancy, nursing immunity. But, no. I guess that doesn't happen. Or at least not to me.

I loaded up on vitamins C and D. I kept up with my running. And yet, I caught the cold. Or whatever it is.

Since Saturday, I've had the spongy lungs, crazy coughing and a sore throat. The cold hasn't knocked me out, though, and I was able to get in two really good runs over the weekend. The worst part of the whole thing is that I often get coughing attacks while I'm nursing or trying to put Niall to bed and the horrendous noise startles the poor little guy. And the last thing anyone wants at a 3:30 am feeding is a startled baby. It doesn't make getting him back to sleep all that easy.

Oh, well. It won't last, I'm sure. I have a run on tap for tonight and I'm hoping some high intensity exercise will burn the bug out of my system!

I did recently read that flushing your ears with hydrogen peroxide will reduce the length of a cold. Sounds weird. Has anyone tried that? If you have, or you have any other works-for-me cold remedies, let me know!

Sorry to hear you feel so bad! It's so hard with a new baby b/c you know you can't rest like you need to. I hope it passes as quickly as possible!

Sorry you have a case of the yucks! Hope you feel better soon!
One remedy we use on the boys when they have coughing fits is (and I'm not sure where we heard this)we rub vapor rub on the bottom of their feet, and then cover them with cotton socks. Not sure why, but it works every time.

Hope you're feeling better soon. I say Yuck to the muck too! I have the same thing and it's lingering. Seems like there are a lot of people sick right now. sorry, I don't have any good remedies to share.

Great that you were able to still get in two good runs even while sick. Get well soon.

There is this kettle thing they sell that totally works. I've forgotten the name "kettle pot" "nettle kettle" sorry - google it. ;) It totally works!!

How would one even go about flushing one's ears with hydrogen peroxide??

Hope it clears up soon!

Feel better soon!! I have never heard of that hydrogen peroxide thing.

I've heard the hydrogen peroxide thing... it cleans out deep wax, but you have to be careful not to do it too often... it'll dry it out too much and wax actually is good for you.

I've also heard the neti pot (that EMZ was trying to think of)... that's for clearing out the sinuses. It does work... but you don't have to use the pot, you can just flood your sinuses with saline.

I've heard the Vicks thing too, but no clue how that works.

I have never heard about the peroxide and the ears but I did try Elderberry to fight a cold that had already started, right before I ran the NYC Marathon and guess what? It worked in one day!!! I've been recommending it to everyone and I think kids can take it too!
Feel better so that you can enjoy your holiday!

Someone mentioned the neti pot - those are great! I always use something like Zicam to shorten the length of my cold...its like a vitamin/zinc supplement. One every three hours and it shortens the misery. Feel better!
