5K training plan.

My recovery week is behind me and I'm ready to get on with my 5K training. It will be nice to train in a different way than I did for the half marathon. For that, I primarily focused on getting miles under my feet. For the 5K, I'm shooting for a PR so I'll be focused more on speed.

I've put together an 8 week plan that calls for tempo runs, speedwork, long runs of 6 miles, some fast runs and a bunch of easy miles. Here's a look at the plan:

Like I did during the half marathon training, I'll be listening to my body and modifying my plan if I feel the need. So, even though this looks like a pretty permanent plan, I consider it written in pencil!

In other news, some friends and I have gone half marathon crazy and we've been investigating just about every fall half that there is. We may run two. Who knows?!? My question to all of you is: Has anyone run the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon? Tell me all about it!

OK, I've got the little guy's 6-month check-up today. Woo hoo! Have a great day, everyone!

You are going rock the Freihofer's!!! Las Vegas sounds great and is such a fun place to go. I've gone half crazy as well - Sept 25 in Schroon Lake and Nov 65 in CA!!!! Signed up for #4 before running #2.

This is an awesome training plan! You'll do great. :-) I'm running the Women's Half Marathon in St. Petersburg, FL Nov. 20th. It's my first one and I'm stoked! I hope to love it and want to do more. :-)

I did the Dodge Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Los Angeles and it was GREAT!!! It was the first race I'd ever done that I would consider a "major" event. They closed off freeway entrances for us and that is something they only do when the President is in town (which he was, the day before the Expo. Awesome!)

However, I have a runner buddy who lives in the same area as me and opts for the Vegas Rock n Roll Half, even though L.A. is much closer. She loves it. Have fun!!!

I have a 5k this weekend and I'm looking to PR too. I'm considering wearing my 5-Fingers. I've never worn them during a race before. I'm excited!

I haven't run Vegas, but I will probably sign up for either the half or full if I don't get in to the St. George Marathon. I haven't heard a bad things about it!
