Great deal for you from Fekkai.

*     *     *

As Conal reminded me this morning before getting on the bus, there are only 7 days until Christmas! That means procrastinators really need to get busy.

So whether you are a procrastinator and need to pick up a few items for someone special, or just need a little extra treat for yourself, I have a deal for you!

Fekkai, the web site from renowned hairdresser Frederic Fekkai, is currently running a holiday promotion to help you with last minute gifts. In addition to free shipping, they are offering 10% off your total order and a complimentary exclusive holiday headband with a $50 purchase (while supplies last).

Check out how cute this headband is:

Wouldn't that be perfect for a New Year's Eve party? Sure would.

To get the deal, visit the Fekkai web site through this special holiday promotion link and, when ordering, use this promo code: HEADBAND.

That's it! Easy.

There are a ton of products to choose from. Me? I'm interested in the Brilliant Glossing Cream. Maybe the whole Brilliant Glossing line. I could use a little glossy brilliance in my life!

What about you?
Do you have someone on your list who could use a few Fekkai goodies?
Ever tried anything from the Brilliant Glossing line?
Should I try it out?

Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great week!

Get Moving Today!

If you have kids and you'd like them to move a little more, then I have a great resource for you: The Get Moving Today Activity Calendar!

This calendar is put out by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) and National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) with the goal of getting kids -- and their parents -- moving.

The calendar is chock-full of creative suggestions for getting active, with a different activity for every day of the month. Have a look at today's activity:

"Roll up a t-shirt into a lasso and swing it over your head. Try using your other arm. Add some galloping."

Lasso. Huh. Honestly, I wouldn't have thought about doing that with my kids and yet, what a good workout for the arms!

The calendar is very easy to access. Each month is listed separately and you simply click on the month you want to view and that opens a PDF. Print it out, hang it on your fridge or wherever, and you'll never be at a loss for how to get active!

May is hanging on my fridge right now. This activity calendar is right up my alley and, folks, I think it will be right up yours, too.

Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I was sent a link to this calendar but was not compensated for this post in any way. The opinions expressed are entirely my own.

So, November was an OK running month. I've been dealing with my hamstring/knee/calf/whatever issue so there was a full week when I didn't run. But factoring in the week off I had decent mileage.

November stats:

Running (miles): 75.5
Racing: 2 -- 10K (new PR!) and 5K (also new PR!)
Out of town runs: 1 on Long Island -- the 10K
Cross training: 9

So far this year I've run 953 miles -- a mere 47 miles away from 1,000! I'd love to hit that nice round number and I imagine I will. I can run 47 miles this month, eas

Welcome, December! Hope your November was a good one!

Silver linings.

So, it's Tuesday. Sometimes, a Tuesday is just a Tuesday. No need to get worked up about it, because it's just a Tuesday.

Tuesday. Not the first day of the week like Monday. Not the middle like Wednesday. Not almost Friday like Thursday. And certainly not TGIF-ish like Friday, or weekend-y like Saturday and Sunday. Just Tuesday.

Gray and dreary, yet warm enough for another shorts run.

Certainly, a silver lining.

And you know what else could constitute a silver lining, like if you were really desperate for one and you really stretched the definition? Well, I'll tell you. Team Strands is seeking athletes to sponsor. As in, runners. Runners that they can give money to. So those runners can run.

Who's in???

Before you start spending that money, check out what you need to do. They sent me a press release about it so I figured I would share the info. Here it is:

Corvallis, OR, November 9, 2009— Team Strands is accepting applications for athlete sponsorship for the 2010 calendar year. Interested athletes should submit a running resume with a one-page sponsorship proposal.
The resume should include, but is not limited to:
  • Running Background
  • Personal Bests
  • Race Highlights
  • Tentative 2010 Race Schedule
The proposal should highlight why you believe you would be a good brand advocate for Strands.com. It would be helpful to include information about your level of involvement in the running community, and your “reach” online with social networking sites and blogs. Preference will be given to athletes willing to relocate to Corvallis. Please indicate whether you would be willing to move in your sponsorship proposal.

You must be willing to share your training and interact with the Strands.com online community, so familiarity with Strands.com is a must. If you would like to apply for sponsorship and haven’t set up a free Strands profile at http://www.strands.com, please do so before applying.

When you have completed your running resume and one-page proposal, please send an email with both documents attached to teamstrands@strands.com by December 15, 2009. We will begin notifying athletes starting January 1, 2010.

ABOUT - Strands.com is an online training log and social networking site where athletes share their training, connect with friends and teammates, and streamline their online activities. The site is operated by Strands Labs, Inc. For more information on Strands Labs, Inc, visit http://corp.strands.com/.
-END-
So there you have it. A Tuesday silver lining. Kinda. Sure, they say preference will be given to people who relocate to Oregon. That doesn't mean they are only going to sponsor runners who move there. So, even if you don't want to relocate, you might want to give it a shot!

Just don't forget about me when you're all kinds of famous.

Race Discount!

Special Offer for the 98th Annual ING Bay to Breakers 12k : May 17th, 2009

Please don't think this is a commercial but a woman promoting the ING Bay to Breakers 12k in contacted me with an opportunity for interested runners to get a discount on race registration. Here's some information:

Now in its 98th year, Bay to Breakers is one of the world's largest and oldest footraces, held annually in San Francisco. ESPN recently this race named one of the “101 things all sports fans must experience before they die.” This year's race will be held on May 17, 2009. Funds raised through registration fees make the event possible each year and support numerous Bay Area beneficiaries, like Breathe California.

ING Bay to Breakers 12k has a special offer for readers of The Happy Runner! You can get an additional 5% off the early registration price for this year’s race. Check it out!

  • Visit www.ingbaytobreakers.com for details about the race
  • Register online by midnight on April 30th, 2009 to receive the early registration price with an additional 5% discount http://tinyurl.com/cy3vkw
  • Enter this coupon code 5HAPPYRUN09 (case sensitive) and click ‘redeem’ before completing your registration
  • This offer is limited to the first 100 registrants, so make sure to register as soon as possible!

Please direct any questions to info (at) ingbaytobreakers (dot) com

The Fine Print:

  • This is an online offer only
  • Discount is valid only for the registration fee. It is not applied to optional purchases such as the MUNI pass or packet mailing fee
I checked out the web site and, man, if I lived in Cali, I'd be all over this! The race looks really cool -- there's even a costume contest! -- but I'm here in upstate New York so I'm out of luck. So, I'll leave it to the travelers and California peeps. If you run this, you have to let me know how it is!!!

Have fun!

RRS sale/deals.

In case you didn't see the one day sale from Road Runner Sports, it's going on now. But, it ends today at 11:59 (est). I picked up two pairs of my beloved Brooks for $77.50 each (regularly $103). The running shoes were on sale for $90 and with the RRS promotion, I received an additional $25 off, plus free shipping!

The order code is: CA19006E.

I know it is late and RRS does have sales fairly regularly. But, it was such a good deal for me that I had to share it.

My plan calls for a 3-4 mile run today and then 7 tomorrow. I hope the weather cooperates.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
