OK, friends. I need your help.
I had plans to run the inaugural Nike Women's Half Marathon in DC this spring but that didn't pan out. So, I'm in need of a spring half to put on the schedule. I need it now, you see, to keep me motivated through cold weekend long runs and (far too) many mid-week treadmill runs.
Ideally, the race would take place sometime between late March and early May. It would be within driving distance of upstate New York and would require no more than a one overnight stay (if at all).
What do you think? Got a favorite half that I should look into?
I need your suggestions!
And if you have a favorite, super-duper spring marathon that fits the bill, let me know about that, too! I might just be convinced to up the mileage and go for the full . . . you never know!
THANKS!!!
~ Felice

Cape Cod or Lake George - April 15 and April 22. LG is rolling hills - out and back.
I agree with Darlene, Lake George is a great race. Also how about Lake Placid in June? It's rolling hills except for the last mile but it's a really fun race. They call your name as you cross the finish line on the Olympic Oval. Plus you get an overnight in Lake Placid. It would be a great family getaway.
Flower City half in Rochester. Its flat from start to mile 7, then a few rollers, then flat from Mile 9.5 to the finish. Its usually the first weekend in May. I've run it the past two years and its a nice course.
J -- I'll have to look that one up! Rochester is close enough and that timing works. Thanks!
Darlene & Melissa -- I'll think about Lake George and Lake Placid. I ran a half in CC in Sept so I think I'll skip that.
Thanks!
The Long Island Marathon. First Sunday in May. I'll be running it! ran the half twice.
DC rock and roll half on 16MAR. Last year I used it as my first half ever. Running it in 2013 because I loved it that much!"
Toronto Goodlife Marathon. Its a fast course, and my favourite half marathon. I'm not sure where you are, but for reference, Buffalo is about 1.5 hours to Toronto.
If you don't mind a little travel, Unite Half Marathon at Rutgers University - New Brunswick, NJ. It's all along Rutgers campus and is a great run - April 28
April 7-Atlantic City April Fool's half
April 14-more half in nyc
May 5-Long Branch half
runsher -- thanks! I'll look into the AC one. I ran the New Jersey marathon last year so I'd rather not run the Long Branch half -- want to run something new!
Marci -- I'm outside of Albany, NY. So, Toronto is probably 6+ hours from me. I've been there before and loved the city, though. Maybe some year I'll run that one!
Since you were already planning on coming to DC in March, go about 18 miles west and do the 1st-ever Reston Half Marathon (there is also a full Marathon) on March 24.

Dorothy of Oz is sure to be an instant classic for the whole family. The film is due out next year but the buzz being created is undeniable. Between the vastly talented cast and the original music, how could you not be excited! Glee's Lea Michele is in the title role as Dorothy Gale and she will bring such a fresh sound to the legendary character. Let us not forget Martin Short, Bernadette Peters, Kelsey Grammer, Dan Aykroyd, and many more bringing life to both new and older familiar characters!! Dorothy of Oz has all the components to be the new family favorite!
