Mama needs a new pair of shoes.

I'm perfectly happy with my Brooks running shoes. And the ugly Birkenstocks clogs that I wear around the house suit me just fine. My problem is with public shoes, the shoes I wear with jeans when I'm out and about.

Even though I'm at an age and stage where shoe comfort counts, I can't get myself to wear my sneaks or Birks in public. Just can't do it. Instead, I've been wearing the same old pair of shoe/booties (shooties? Shebooties? Not sure.) for years while searching for a more comfortable replacement pair. Really, years. I think I bought the shoes in 2001 or 2002 and have been wearing them almost every non-sandal weather day since.

And now, these formerly comfy, increasingly worn out shoes are done. They need to go and I need a new pair of shoes.

Please help!

I need advice on a good pair of comfortable shoes for a runner gal with an annoying bunion on her right foot. I tried this pair of Dansko shoes and they did not work. I think that something about the up-curved toe pushes my inflexible toe into an uncomfortable position. My feet hurt when I wear these shoes so I usually don't.

Do you have any suggestions for me? I'm willing to try just about anything, but I would prefer that the shoes aren't completely orthopedic looking. Please help! I'm desperate!

March Madness may be my undoing. I stayed up way too late last night, watching teams I didn't really care about, simply because it was a close game. Tonight is going to be just as bad because our local team, Siena, plays at 9:40. Go Saints!

Before I settle in to enjoy the games, though, I have speed work on the schedule for this evening. For some odd reason, I'm really looking forward to it. Yeah, I think I'm weird, too.

Happy Friday, everyone!

i have found some surprisingly comfortable work shoes (and work = many hours on feet) at aldo. i am picky too (and need at least 2" of extra heigh) and my last 2 pairs have been from there.

it's so sad -- i LOVE high, obnoxiously uncomfortable heels but my tolerance for them has definitely decreased since my college days. now they are only for special occasions -- and even then i whine and complain that they hurt!

I can't help you with the shoes. I'm still in denial over my 4 inch platforms...

The last time I recommended "the most comfortable shoes in the world" to someone with foot problems she reported back that they hurt her feet more than any others she'd ever tried. So I'm going to keep away from this one. However, I may have to vicariously Zappos for awhile. Oh, you know what else? Is it wrong that I think some of those non-ugly, non-clog Crocs are kindasorta cute?

Enjoy your speedwork and your weekend!

Good luck on the shoe mission. No advice here - I'm embarrassed to even tell you what I wear if I'm not in sandals or runners.

I have an annoying bunion, too! It's really painful so I just got a splint to wear at night. Hoping this works so I don't have to go under the knife.

Good luck! Sorry, I'm no help! If it makes you feel any better, I have only 2 pairs of work shoes and one shootie (I really like that word...great job on coming up with that!) all of which badly need replacement.

I usually wear my retired running shoes around when I'm not alternating Birkenstocks & Uggs (never said I was a fashion plate)!

BUT, I do have an array of comfy Naturalizer pumps for when I need to look like an adult.

I am all about comfort for shoes. I have way too many pairs, but for everyday bumming around I like rocket dogs.

GO SAINTS! My sis is a Siena alum. :o)

Anyway, shoes...I have the basic Dansko clog. It might have the same upturned toe problem, but maybe not.....?

Other brands I've enjoyed are Sofft, Think!, Keen....I really do live in my Danskos, though. The front part of my foot is pretty wide, for what it's worth, and there seems to be plenty of room in these for me.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know!

If you decide to get something cute, maybe these: :o)

I don't know about shoes sorry.

But I will be watching the Siena game tonight too. I really hope they win because I am with some Siena fans now and they made me put a siena sweatshirt on!

Shoes are a love/hate thing for me... I love to find great shoes and I hate shopping for them. I've heard Merrills (sp?) are good.

Have fun watching the game!

I'm terrible with shoes too. I have heels that I LOVE, but I can't wear them two days in a row. Good luck finding a pair you love.

I feel like such a grown up when I wear a pair of soft ballet flats. I hate the athletic shoes with jeans look. Good luck on your quest!

So far the bunion splint just feels good when I wear it. I can feel it stretching things back out. I was in a lot of pain after my run today so I put it on for a little to alleviate some of the pain and it helped. I've only been wearing it for a few days now so hopefully I'll see improvement as time goes on.

I have a little pair of skechers tennis shoes that I wear all the time - to work, to the store. I only put my heels on when I have to go to court. (Even then, I sometimes wear the tennis shoes if I think the judge won't notice . . .) It's all about comfort!

first of all, congrats on siena! i had picked them to win that game as well, so i was happy about it too!

now on to shoes-- have you thought about something like this: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=19834&pid=593510&scid=593510002

they're comfortable, yet sporty and cute. . . and also on sale! piperlime is great too cuz it's always free shipping and if you don't like them, it's free shipping to return them! anyway, there's lots of other cute ones on that website if those aren't really your style!

good luck on finding the right shoes...if you're like my wife, she has about 50 pairs of shoes to pick from.....and Sienna looked good in their win over OSU!

i pretty much wear 'boat shoes' every day. i'm too lazy to put myself thru the pain of heels. sperry is a popular brand but there are others of course.

i think siena played louisville the other night if i'm thinking of the right game? i definitely cheered for them in whichever game i saw them in. i don't think it worked though :(
