Hi, I'm a PC.

At least that's what I feel like, anyway. A PC that locks up and needs to be completely shut down in order to reset itself and function properly again.

Today, I'm fine. Feeling groovy and all that. Yesterday was another story: I awoke with a terrible headache that I just couldn't shake. It was accompanied by cold extremities and almost constant goose bumps. Weird, I know. I get these things. Certain headaches restrict the blood flow to my hands, feet, nose, ears, etc., and they become cold. The goose bumps, I assume, are related.

Yes, I've had this all checked out* and my MRI was fine and the repeated diagnosis was migraine. Well, no kidding.

So, yesterday was a rotten one. The highlight of my day was my 4.5 mile run. I felt great and fully expected that sweating it out would, indeed, sweat it out. It didn't. The headaches, cold extremities and goose bumps remained. Nothing was working so I had to shut it down.

Like any good PC, turning me off for the night, and back on again this morning, did the trick. I'm functioning today. Yippee!

Does anyone else get migraines? Weird coldness, etc.? Have any advice?

Oh! I've been meaning to post a follow-up to the whole email imbroglio from last week. A few of you asked if I responded to Mrs. Zero. Yes, I did. What I wrote back was, "I'm sorry you feel that way, Mrs. Zero." In that way, I didn't stoop to her level but I did let her know that I received her email. She did not respond. I didn't expect her to.

So that's that. Case closed.

I hope everyone has a great Monday!

~ Felice

* It was back in 2006 so I'm contemplating getting checked out again. I'm also thinking of acupuncture. Ever tried it?

I don't get migraines either but my mom used to when I was little. She doesn't anymore and I dont remember her ever going to the doctor. she always just too excedrine. You should go to the doctor and see, maybe this time they will find something.

Geesh, that doesn't sound like a good day. Glad you're feeling better.

Good for you for taking the high road with Mrs. Zero.

Ugh, sorry about your migraines. I don't get them, but my mom every so often gets them, and they're scary bad-- not your symptoms, but other ones that every so often make me command her to please get a second and third opinion, because can a migraine really do that? But apparently they can. I have gotten acupuncture for other health issues and find it soothing, but hard to judge it's effectiveness.

Yay for feeling better! And that was a very mature, appropriate response to someone who sounds like they don't deserve it. Go you.

glad you're feeling better today. I remember my mom getting really bad migraines... she finally found a medication that helped!! Love your comparison to a PC though, too funny.

I get migraines, although luckily it's been a long time since I've gotten one. I wonder if it's related to your hydration issue--if I don't drink enough water I'll often get headaches that go into migraines. The coldness could just be your migraine thing--like some people get the auras and light sensitivity and all that. I never get the auras... it's probably worth it to get it checked out again though. A long time ago I used to take some kind of blood pressure medicine every day to prevent migraines because they were so often. Then I switched jobs and boom, they went away. ;-)

Hi Felice - I'm glad you reset! Funny you used that term and the PC analogy because the brain science on Migraine does show that our brains are overstimulated prior to a Migraine attack and need to reset! I also get cold hands and feet with a Migraine and use warm socks and blankets to warm them. Biofeedback is another technique people use to warm their extremities, which can help the Migraine resolve!
Be well,
Megan

Yes indeed I do get migraines and my are stubborn because they only respond to one type of aspirin. Heaven forbid this aspirin brand goes out of business! I had similar "shut down" incident myself this weekend! Glad you are feeling better ;-)

Good luck figuring out the migraine/cold extremities/goose bumps thing! Glad the reboot worked and you had a better day today.

Ha! What a great analogy. I'm going to start calling my bad moods Vista. :)

So glad you are feeling better and it sounds like the run went well!

I've never had a migraine, so I can't help with that.

But I've tried the system reset myself a few times and it works well for most things. ;-)

Sorry you weren't feeling good! I knew a girl who got migranes so bad (and lasting so long) that she went to a research hospital for a few weeks to find a solution (she had one for months straight). But, that was right before we became friends, so I have no clue what worked for her. One of my lab-mates used to get them periodically though, and she would just need to take the day off and rest. She was usually better the next day.
I hope you find something that works!

Enjoy the hummus!

I like the banner! My husband gets migranes but has never complained of coldness. They certainly are not fun.

Thanks for the sweet comment yesterday, Felice. It meant a lot to me. Everyone's supportive comments meant the world to me.

Yuck, that migraine does not sound fun. :\ Glad to hear it has passed. Kudos for getting out for a run to try and 'sweat it out' - I don't think I would have been able to get out of bed!

I like how you handled the email situation.

I used to get migraines all the time (knock on wood), and had to get a special prescription that I still carry with my in my purse whereever I go, because they can be debilitating! Normal headache medicine did not do the trick for me.

So sorry about the migraine!

You really came across the bigger person in the email issue. Great job!

Ugh - I get migraines once in a while, & though I try to head them off once I feel the warning signs (excedrin), sometimes it's too late. There's no fighting the nausea & light sensitivity, so if I can, I just try to lay down & "reboot".

I have heard of peeps who suffer migraines more regularly that try chiro/acupressure/acupuncture - I think it would be worth a shot.

Unless the chiro's about to snap my neck around though - I wouldn't be too cool with that.

Helloooooo, long-winded comment! Sorry ;)
